Dilan Yildirim received two BA degrees in Sociology and Political Science from Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey. As a graduate student in Social Anthropology, her dissertation project tries to bring together the broader questions of politics of culture (as well as political culture), state violence and geography by focusing on Dersim- a highly politicized Kurdish province in the margins of Turkey. Dilan is also pursuing a secondary field in Critical Media Practice following her interest in Visual Anthropology in practical terms, which goes back to her theoretical studies in the field during her undergraduate studies. Along with her dissertation research, Dilan aims for her CMP capstone project to be a documentary film focusing on how the different mundane practices of dwelling in a marginal landscape become a political struggle in the everyday life of Dersim people in an intensely militarized and commoditized landscape.
