History of Science
Shireen Hamza is a graduate student focused on the history of science and medicine in the Islamicate world. As part of her doctoral work, she will explore the emergence of Galenic medical knowledge, now known as Unani medicine, in Medieval South Asia. Her capstone project will focus on contemporary Unani medical education and practice in India. Using photography and film, the project will engage with the way students and practitioners understand the history, scientific nature and sectarian identity of the Unani medical tradition.
