Andrew Littlejohn is an aspiring anthropologist, filmmaker, photographer and phonographer, whose work is situated at the intersection of ethnographic and artistic practices. He took his B.A. in Japanese from the School of Oriental and African Studies, London, and has lived and studied in Japan for over three years. Since Sept 2014 he has been based in northeast Japan, where he has been conducting ethnographic research on the post-3.11 recovery process, as well as continuing work on a variety of phonographic and audiovisual projects. Andrew’s capstone project, “Iei” (遺影) is a 16mm exploration of the disappearance of people and places during the tsunami of 2011, as well as the ambiguities of their materialization post-disaster as images.
