PhD Dissertation Title: Residual Visions: Rubbish, Refuse and Marginalia in Italian Cinema from Neorealism to the Present
Capstone Project: Residual City

Adam Muri-Rosenthal is a documentary filmmaker and recent PhD graduate in Italian Studies and Critical Media Practice. His dissertation examined the uncertain relationship between people and marginal objects—items sold and pawned, used and traded, destroyed, burned and discarded—as it is depicted in Italian cinema from Neorealism to the present. For his CMP capstone project, Adam made a feature-length work of lyrical non-fiction titled “Residual City”, which examines signs of impermanence in Venice, Italy by following the daily rounds of the city’s sanitation workers.
