Julia is an urban planner and designer. Her doctoral work looks at how cities are tied to their surrounding hinterlands, in investigating how the operationalization of these landscapes have/ are leading to specific forms of urban development. Her capstone project focuses on woodland areas in the province of Ontario, Canada. Using film and photography, the project engages with current landscape discourse on ecological urbanism, documenting forests and forest products at multiple spatial scales; tracing the relative associations between the natural and human world to reveal the extent to which the forest is a designed environment, tied to the social, economic and political histories of production and conservation within the region.
