Noha Mokhtar is a visual artist and PhD Candidate in Social Anthropology and Critical Media Practice at Harvard University. Her research is primarily focused on Egypt where she looks at the relationships between kinship, domesticity, spatial practices and material culture. Her artistic practice includes photography, sculpture and installation, and borrows from methods of ethnographic research. Many of her projects articulate her interest in how spaces and objects relate to social and political questions around concepts of culture, family, gender and power.
Her artistic work has been exhibited at Haus Konstruktiv, Zurich; Aargauer Kunsthaus, Aarau; Centre d‘Art Contemporain, Geneva; Townhouse Gallery, Cairo; Musée d‘Art de Pully; Kunstmuseum Thun; Centre Pasquart, Biel/Bienne; Swiss Institute, Rome; Musée de l‘Elysée, Lausanne and Belfast Photo Fesitval among other. She has received various grants and awards including a Kiefer Hablitzel Prize, a Fulbright Foreign Student Grant and a Swiss Design Award in Photography from the Swiss Federal Office of Culture. She has also been awarded artistic residencies in New York City, Cairo and Beirut.
