Tarik Garrett is an artist primarily working between Los Angeles and Cambridge, MA. Concerned with epistemologies that challenge Western Humanism and its ocularcentrism, Garrett seeks to rediscover and develop a haptic epistemology based on his research of the tradition of African diasporic culture in the Americas. Working across a range of media, including sculpture, photo, video, printmaking, and audio, his practice is rooted in the immanent critique that typifies the Black Radical Tradition. Before his doctoral studies at Harvard in Film and Visual Studies, Tarik completed an MFA in studio art at UC Irvine (2021) and a BFA at the Cooper Union (2013).
